I went with Rand because they make the trucking maps , so i though "who better" I've had this for a few months now..it's really worth the xtra money to get the model with life time free upgrades , it work much better if you update it every couple of weeks , before my first update it had alot of trouble with towns in P.A. but still HAS trouble , it couldn't find "Mount Wolf" but it could find "Mt Wolf" am I splitting hairs??? NO when I enter an address that's on the invoice , I want to find it reguardless... I went with the 510 bc the 710 seems to have more options then i needed , one thing i do wish the 510 had was the real time traffic monitoring you get with the 710 (with subscription of course).. The high points are you can switch between car and truck mode , you can... Read more
8 of 8 people found the following review helpful Good accessory to use with a map, August 1, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Rand McNally Intelliroute TND 510 Truck GPS (Electronics) G.P.S.
I had never used a GPS but the idea of a Truck Specific GPS appealed to me. The Satellite Truck I drive is 13'6" high, 10' wide, and GVRW of 54,000 pounds; it's like a real truck. This Rand McNally Truck GPS is useful, fairly intelligent, but for me not really intuitive.
However, using the R-M Truck GPS along with a real map and a Rand-McNally Truckers' Road Atlas is a good thing.
This GPS unit is impressive looking, warns about speed limit changes, will keep track of hours and miles, warns of long term ongoing highway construction projects, has some information about low-weight roads/bridges, and low clearances.
Once I learned how to use the Detour function and the Add As Via function, it has proved to be a nice addition to maps and the Truckers' Road Atlas.

I love its features, I love its precision, though some addresses are out of date or missing, I love its nice big 5" screen, I love that I can easily search for truck stops, scales, Wal-Marts...
I hate that I have had two units fail the same way. Each of the two units I have had have died the same way. I had them for a few days, then decided I would install the TND Dock software that comes with it and get some yummy free map updates. Bad idea- as soon as I try to update the device, the download completes, it syncs the files, I unplug it from my computer and try to turn it on and... NOTHING. It locks up permanently on the first loading screen- nothing happens, nothing moves, nothing. I can plug it back in and update it again, it recognizes that, but as soon as I try to turn it on it locks up. It has a handy reset button, but all that does is blank the memory and let you see it lock up with... Read more
